Poppy Appeal Volunteers
We are delighted that two of our pupils Beth and Rose T have been volunteering in Marple for this years poppy appeal.
Y6 World War 2 Day
On Wednesday 3rd November we went back to the 1940’s to experience what it would be like in World War 2. We were told to come in WW2 style clothes. There were air raid sirens so we had to go under the tables and stay quiet and keep safe.
We learnt about the evacuees who came to Mellor during WW2 with Mr Barley. We learnt World War 2 songs like ‘Run Rabbit Run’ and made some actions to go with them. We then baked with Mrs Bergin whilst learning about rations.
For lunch we were encouraged to bring in a World War 2 style pack-up, for example honey sandwiches. In the afternoon we did rag rugging and some sewing and we had the option to do a family portrait or propaganda poster to decorate the Anderson Shelter.
To end the day we tried all the cakes and cookies we had made, they were surprisingly good.

Schools Cross Country
Well done to all the children who took part in the School Cross Country. Super proud of 1st time runners: Sol (11th Y5/6 boys) & Poppy (18th Y3/4 girls). Congratulations Oliver H who came 2nd in Y5/6 boys after playing the 1st half of a lacrosse game before.
Mellor Mini Marathon
A commitment to active sport and community working together was very much displayed through this fantastic event. Through the enthusiasm and organisation of Miss Bailey we had over 70 children and parents enjoy the occasion – thank you to everyone who took part. Watch this space as there is the energy and interest to run it again (no pun intended).
We also congratulate Mrs Skelly on her fantastic achievement as she completed the London Marathon raising £522 for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
Miss Russell’s 100km Trek
Miss Russell our Year 6 teacher recently completed a 100km trek and camped in the Scottish Highlands to raise much needed funds for Coppafeel Breast Cancer Charity. Thank you so much to all of the staff and parents who purchased raffle tickets. Over £1000 worth of tickets were sold in total which is incredible and the charity are so grateful for the money. Overall, Miss Russell has raised just under £6,000 for Coppafeel so thank you. Emily would also like to thank the Mellor March for contributing £1,500.
